Mount your sample manually

Cryo Pins
Cryo pin length can vary. The X6A diffractometer is setup with a manual wide range z translation (+/- 25 mm ) and a small range z translation ( +/- 5 mm ) adjustment on the goniometer head (figure). Be sure to bring an empty pin for all your pin length if you are bringing pre-frozen samples. You will need to adjust the wide range z translation with it before putting your crystals on. We hope to have this automated in the near future. You will find all cryo tools from Hampton at the beam line. However, it is always advisable that you bring your own.

Goniostat
If your samples are pre-frozen or you are freezing them in the stream, choose the manual control on your ADX Manual Control window. Be sure you verified the pin length.

Microscope
The microscope for aligning the crystal is at 45 degrees to the beam. The center of the beam is on the cross hair on the screen. The zoom can be changed on the microscope ( be VERY CAREFULL ) since any movement of the microscope will lead your sample NOT to BE ALIGNED IN THE BEAM. The microscope can move if it is hit and also with torsional strain. If you think it has moved, ALWAYS align the crystal to the center of rotation of the spindle.
