Center Crystals

Procedure Description

• As predefined in protocol Queuecold, after mounting one sample the software will wait for the user to center the crystal.

• When the crystal is centered, press the button Resume and TaskQueue Process will continue to the next protocol step ------ Screening Scans.

We highly recommend to test an empty loop for checking the centering system when you start your experiments. Currently, the equipment is set to measure the 8mm pin as default. To set the measurement for any other pin sizes, please contact the local contact person.

How to use

DCS software provides an easy way to handle samples centering.

1. Position the phi angle at 45 in the box written Move To 

2. Click the crystal, and the crystal will be centered on the green hair +. 

3. Rotate the crystal by 90 degree. Click the crystal again if not centered on +. 

4. Repeat 90 degree rotations for several times until the crystal is well centered.

Screen Crystals

• Select Collect Panel, you will see screen as

Procedure Description

• When screening crystals, screen images will be displayed on Collect Panel (the left empty panel)
• Check diffraction resolution for previous crystal screening image
• After screening one crystal, DCS software will stop to wait for user further actions.
• If you want to continue screening the next crystal, press the button Resume again and next crystal will be mounted.
• After the Screening is finished, you can continue screening in the Collect Panel. You just need to press 0 and define your scan, or press * if you want to define a long collection.

Collect Measurements

Procedure Description

• After finishing screening all the pucks in the automounter, user can select the crystals for further testing and collecting.
• In the Hutch Panel, in the automounter panel, choose the puck and the position of the cystal.
• Mount the crystal using the button Mount.
• Center the crystal, following the instruction on Center Crystal.
• Collecting measurements may now be completed using the collect panel.

• Click on the tab * (that appears on the right side of the screen)
• When all the informations is set, click button Start.

Important:

While the system is collecting data, you will see a message written: (collecting) 
When the process stops, you will see: (inactive)
This will appear during the screening and collecting processes.
